Health and Safety First Aid at Work

Health and Safety First Aid at Work initial course

This course is recognised by the Health and Safety Executive for workplace First Aid. It takes place one day per week for three weeks, or can be delivered in a 3 day block.

A comprehensive course, it provides the skills and confidence required by a First Aider to deal with real life emergencies. Areas covered include:

Health and Safety legislation, assessment of numbers of First Aiders required, completion of Accident Records and reporting incidents to the Health and Safety Executive.

Understand the role of the first aider including reference to:

  • the importance of preventing cross infection;
  • the need for recording incidents and actions;
  • use of available equipment;
  • Assess the  situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (cpr);  
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
  • Administer first aid  to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who has suffered serious injuries such as fractures, burns, scalds, poisoning, eye injuries,
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who has suffered from Anaphylaxis
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who has suffered from a Major illness such as heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes.
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).

Health and Safety First Aid at Work refresher course

This course is recognised by the Health and Safety Executive as a refresher course for those who currently hold a First Aid at Work certificate which is about to expire.

The course takes place one day per week for two weeks, or can be delivered in a 2 day block. A comprehensive refresher, it updates the skills and confidence required by a First Aider to deal with real life emergencies. Areas covered include:

Health and Safety legislation, assessment of numbers of First Aiders required, completion of Accident Records and reporting incidents to the Health and Safety Executive.

Health and Safety Emergency First Aid at Work

This course is for smaller businesses who operate in a lower risk environment. A risk assessment should be completed and indicate a lower level of First Aid cover is required.

It is approved by the Health and Safety Executive. Areas covered include:

Health and Safety legislation, assessment of numbers of First Aiders required, completion of Accident Records and reporting incidents to the Health and Safety Executive.

  • the need for recording incidents and actions;
  • use of available equipment;
  • Assess the  situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;

Health and Safety First Aid at Work, Skills Update

This 3 hour course is a skills refresher for those holding a valid First Aid at Work First Aid Certificate. It is strongly recommended that such certificate holders attend this course annually.

It is approved by the Health and Safety Executive. Areas covered include:
