Outdoor First Aid

This First Aid Course qualifies you as a First Aider for outdoor activity, and is relevant to Mountain Leaders and other such outdoor professionals.

This comprehensive two-day course covers a wide range of First Aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with emergency situations with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way, particularly where professional medical help is not immediately available. This course fulfils the requirements of the First Aid element of the expedition syllabus and it is suitable for the Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards. There is sufficient content in this course to satisfy the requirements of the HSE in respect of Emergency First Aid at Work. An additional certificate can be provided to evidence this to an employer.

Emergency First Aid

This course is designed for those who wish to have a basic insight into First Aid and life saving skills.
Areas covered include:
Understand the role of the first aider including reference to:
  • the importance of preventing cross infection;
  • use of available equipment;
  • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
  • Identify a casualties vital signs and understand what they mean;
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (cpr);  
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
  • Identify and recognise a casualty who has suffered from a stroke and effectively manage the condition;

Anaphylaxis Awareness

Anaphylaxis is a life threatening condition, but is manageable with the correct knowledge, treatment and equipment.

This course is designed for pre school/school environments, catering and leisure industries as well as families with members who are at risk of an attack. The course teaches recognition of the causes and how managing the risk of exposure to allergens can reduce the likelihood of an attack, as well as treatment, including CPR and administration of medication. Areas covered include:

  • Identify the causes of Anaphylaxis and how to reduce the risk of an attack;
  • Recognition of allergens and where to find information as to the contents of foods;
  • Identify and administer first aid to a casualty who has suffered from Anaphylaxis;
  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (cpr) to a casualty;
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious;
  • Administration of medication including Epipen and Anapen.

Sports Injury First Aid

This course is approved by the Scottish Youth Football Association and is approved for their members.

This course is designed for those who attend or are involved in sporting events in any capacity. This includes coaches, managers, referees, players, spectators and any other involved adult. The course concentrates on the most common sporting injuries such as strains, sprains and head injuries. Areas covered include:

Understand the role of the first aider including reference to:

  • the importance of preventing cross infection;
  • use of available equipment;
  • Assess the  situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (cpr);  
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
  • Administer first aid  to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
  • The correct handling and application of dressings and bandages.
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who has suffered a fracture to the upper or lower limb or a soft tissue injury;
  • Recognise and administer first aid to a casualty who has suffered a head injury - concussion, compression and serious head injury;
  • Identify the extent of any injury and assess the casualty's ability to re-nter the field of play;
  • Discuss the most appropriate contents for a Sports Injury First Aid Kit.

Standard First Aid

This is a comprehensive First Aid Course, designed for those who wish to learn First Aid, but who do not need a First Aid at Work Certificate.

Areas covered include:

  • Assess the  situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);

  • Administer first aid  to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who has suffered serious injuries such as fractures, burns, scalds, poisoning, eye injuries;
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who has suffered from Anaphylaxis;
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who has suffered from a Major illness such as heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes;
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).

First Aid for Baby and Child

This course is designed for those who require knowledge and skills of emergency first aid for children and babies.

Areas covered include:
